PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors)

PADI is a privately held global corporation that educates the public in recreational scuba and snorkel diving. PADI provides certifications that are accepted globally with over 100,000 professional members worldwide. PADI issues over 900,000 scuba diving certifications every year.

PADI provides a wide range of scuba diving courses ranging from entry level programs (ie Open Water Diver) to instructor level certificates. Each program includes course material.

PADI Open Water Diver
The PADI Open Water Diver course will give you a recreational diving certification that allows you to dive solo. This course is designed for beginners and generally lasts 3-5 days. This class is performance based and there is no time limit on when individuals must complete sections. The PADI Open Water Diver course is divided into 3 segments: academic, enclosed water dive (at least 2 dives), open-water dive (4 dives). Prices for an Open Water Diver course will vary depending on where you take this class. There is no set price, but prices will range from $200 to $500.

PADI Adventure Diver
The PADI Adventure Diver course is designed to strengthen your underwater skills. This course requires certification in PADI Open Water Diver and to be 15 years of age. The PADI Adventure Diver requires 3 Adventure Dives to receive certification. The following are examples of Adventure Dives:

  • Underwater Naturalist
  • Boat Diver
  • Underwater Navigator
  • Peak Performance Buoyancy
  • Underwater Photography
  • Altitude Diver
  • Multilevel Diver
  • Deep Diver
  • Night Diver
  • Diver Propulsion Vehicle
  • Search and Recovery Diver
  • Drift Diver
  • Underwater Videography
  • Dry Suit Diver
  • Wreck Diver

PADI Advanced Diver
The PADI Advanced Diver course will provide a full array of specialty scuba diving skills. This course requires certification in PADI Open Water Diver and to be 15 years of age. The PADI Advanced Diver course includes the Deep Adventure Dive, the Underwater Navigator Adventure Dive, and any three Adventure Dives. After completion of these five dives, cerification as a PADI Advanced Diver is issued.
