San Soo Gap San5247 N. Western Ave. Cuisine: Korean I tell all my friends that San Soo Gap San is my home away from home. The kalbi, aka Korean BBQ, is amazing here. I recommend you order the kalbi meal which will cost you around $20. This meal includes kalbi, korean soup (jigae), and dozens of side dishes. I would say San Soo Gap San makes the best side dishes in Chicago. The kalbi at San Soo Gap San is marinated very well. The service at San Soo Gap San is always consistently stellar. I do have to confess that the ladies know me there since I am a regular and I do get my perks. In any case, the waitresses are very friendly and always give lots of food. It seems their goal is fatten me up every time I go. If you have a favorite side dish, tell one of the ladies and they will bring out more. San Soo Gap San can get quite busy. Like all good restaurants, they are quite popular. They have tables to accommodate large groups. My one complaint would have to be that air circulation is not so good. As a result, the restaurant can get quite smokey from all the BBQ going around. I would recommend you keep your fancy clothes at home. In any case, San Soo Gap San has to be one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. There was a period during college where I went to this restaurant twice a week. I still frequent this restaurant quite a bit. San Soo Gap San remains my favorite Korean restaurant in Chicago. |
